Levemir is an injectable medication that comes in single-patient pens (Levemir FlexTouch Pen). It can also be administered using a vial and syringe.
How long does Levemir take to begin working?
Levemir lowers blood sugar within 3-4 hours after injection.
How long does Levemir last in the body?
Levemir lasts in the body for 18-23 hours. It’s usually injected once per day.
Can Levemir be used in an insulin pump?
No. Levemir should never be administered in an insulin pump.

Yes. Levemir has been FDA-approved for use in pregnant women.
What should I do if I miss a dose of Levemir?
If you miss a dose of Levemir, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Don’t take extra insulin to compensate for a missed dose. Monitor your blood sugar and contact your healthcare provider with any concerns or questions.
